The Tambopata National Reserve is known for its great biodiversity in the Amazon rainforest. Located in the Madre de Dios region of southeastern Peru, this reserve is one of the largest protected areas in the country and is home to an incredible variety of plant, animal and microorganism species. Tambopata is known for being one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, with thousands of plant species, hundreds of species of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and a great diversity of insects. Among the most notable animals of Tambopata are the jaguar, the ocelot, the tapir, the giant otter, the black caiman, the yellow-headed parrot and a great variety of butterflies. The reserve is a popular destination for ecotourism and scientific research due to its unique biodiversity and its importance for the conservation of the Amazon rainforest.
