Question (En)
What city in the Cusco region is known as the "Lost City of the Incas"?
Answer (En)
The city in the Cusco region known as the "lost city of the Incas" is Machu Picchu. This ancient archaeological site is located high on a mountain in the Urubamba River valley, about 80 kilometers northwest of the city of Cusco. Machu Picchu was built by the Incas in the 15th century and then abandoned, probably due to the Spanish conquest. The city was rediscovered in 1911 by explorer Hiram Bingham and has since become one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world. Machu Picchu is known for its impressive architecture, its agricultural terraces and its spectacular location in the middle of the Andean mountains. It is considered a masterpiece of Inca architecture and an important religious, political and cultural center of the Inca civilization.
