Question (En)
What is the currency of El Salvador?
Answer (En)
The official currency of El Salvador is the United States dollar (USD). Since 2001, the country adopted the dollar as its only legal tender, eliminating its previous currency, the Salvadoran col&&o&&n. This dollarization has simplified transactions and provided economic stability by linking the Salvadoran economy directly to the US dollar. As a result, visitors to El Salvador can transact and understand prices using US dollars. It is not necessary to change currency when arriving in the country. However, it is advisable to have small bills, as in some more remote places there may be difficulties in exchanging large denomination bills. Understanding dollarization makes travel and daily transactions easier for tourists visiting El Salvador.
