Question (En)
What types of folk dances are popular in Colombia and where can they be witnessed?
Answer (En)
In Colombia, several folk dances are popular and reflect the cultural diversity of the country. Cumbia is one of the best known, originating from the Caribbean coast, where indigenous, African and European influences are mixed. Another notable dance is the Vallenato, typical of the north coast region, which is accompanied with accordion, box and guacharaca. La Champeta, which emerged in the Pacific coast region, combines African rhythms with Caribbean influences. On the other hand, the Joropo is traditional from the Llanos Orientales region, with vigorous movements and accompaniment of the harp, cuatro and maracas. These dances can be witnessed at festivals and cultural events throughout the country, especially in cities such as Barranquilla during the Barranquilla Carnival, in Valledupar during the Vallenata Legend Festival, and in Villavicencio during the Joropo International Festival.
