Question (En)
Which Latin American revolutions had strong Black leadership?
Answer (En)
Haiti’s Revolution (1791-1804) was the most significant, led by Toussaint Louverture, who fought to abolish slavery and establish Haiti as the first independent Black republic. In Brazil, Zumbi dos Palmares led a strong resistance against Portuguese colonizers in the Quilombo dos Palmares. Cuba’s independence struggle also saw contributions from Afro-Cubans like Antonio Maceo, who played a vital role in the Cuban wars for independence.
