Machu Picchu is located in the Cusco region, Urubamba province, Peru, at 2,430 meters above sea level, surrounded by misty forests that add to its mystical aura. To get there: From Cusco: Most visitors start in this city. By train: From Poroy or Ollantaytambo stations, take a train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). Companies like PeruRail and IncaRail operate these routes. By road and hike: Buses can take you to Hidroel&&e&&ctrica, followed by a 2-3 hour walk to Aguas Calientes. From Aguas Calientes: Buses take about 25 minutes to reach Machu Picchu’s entrance. Alternatively, you can hike uphill in about 1.5 hours. The famous Inca Trail leads directly to the site, with routes ranging from 2 to 5 days.
