Freedom House, located in Georgetown, Guyana, is a historical monument that played a significant role in the country's history. Built in 1824, Liberty House was originally the residence of the British governor of the colony of Demerara-Essequibo. However, its historical significance dates back to 1831, when it became the meeting place for rebel leaders who participated in the Demerara Slavery Revolt.

The revolt, which began on a nearby plantation in 1823, was led by rebellious slaves seeking the abolition of slavery and better living conditions. Although the revolt was ultimately put down by colonial authorities, it had a lasting impact on Guyana's history and on the abolitionist movement around the world.

Today, Freedom House is a protected historic site and a memorial to the fight for freedom and justice in Guyana. The house houses a museum dedicated to the history of the revolt and the fight against slavery in the country, making it an important tourist and educational destination.
