Question (En)
What is the predominant religion in Suriname and how is it manifested in everyday life?
Answer (En)
The predominant region of Suriname is the northern coast of the country, where the majority of the population and major cities, such as Paramaribo and Nieuw Nickerie, are located. This region is the most economically developed and concentrates most of the country's political, cultural and commercial activities. In everyday life, the predominance of the coastal region is manifested in several aspects. For example, the capital, Paramaribo, is the cultural and economic center of Suriname, where most government institutions, educational centers, and major entertainment and commerce venues are located. Additionally, the north coast is where most of the country's tourism infrastructure is concentrated, including hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions. However, this predominance has also created challenges, as it has led to an unequal concentration of resources and opportunities in the coastal region, to the detriment of inland regions. Despite this, the coastal region remains the economic and cultural heart of Suriname, and plays a central role in the daily lives of most Surinamese.
