Mosquitoes in Argentina are being dyed red for a control study

In the department of Guaymall&&e&&n, in the Argentine province of Mendoza, scientists are using sterilized insects of the same species to control their own population, and they are painting them red. The research being carried out by the Mendoza Institute of Agricultural Health and Quality, Iscamen, together with the Ministry of Health, uses the same technique to control the Mediterranean fly. This is the first step to analyze the behavior of the Aedes aegypti produced in a laboratory in a real environment, and then release 10,000 sterile male mosquitoes colored red at a point in Guaymall&&e&&n. Prior to the release of the mosquitoes, the population was informed, door to door, of the importance of this research, highlighting that the insects are males that do not reproduce, unlike wild mosquitoes. The female of this species is the one that bites and acts as a transmitter of diseases.
