Lake Cocibolca is the largest lake in Central America and Ometepe Island is one of the largest islands on it. It is located approximately in the center of the lake, formed by two volcanoes, Concepción and Maderas, and is accessible by ferry from the city of San Jorge, near Rivas, in southwestern Nicaragua. Curious Facts about Ometepe Island: Volcanic Origin: Ometepe Island was formed by the volcanic activity of the Mombacho volcano. Its two volcanoes, Concepción and Maderas, are an integral part of its unique landscape.
