Suicides in Medellin. Foreign deaths
Document
Dramatic case in Medellín due to a message from an American found dead The body was found in the Los Laureles neighborhood, commune 11 of the capital of Antioquía This Tuesday, July 16, Medellín was the scene of the death of two foreign citizens. One of them, the American Mattew Miller, 42, sent a moving message to a loved one before his death, which has been documented in the file of the judicial authorities. Miller had arrived in Colombia on May 24 and was reportedly suffering from an unspecified psychiatric illness, facing a difficult personal situation. The owner of the property where he was staying found him without vital signs in his room, which led to alerting the Metropolitan Police. The officers carried out a technical inspection at the scene. Investigations indicate that Miller may have committed suicide. A crucial detail in the file reveals that the man sent a message in which he mentioned having lost his company and his home, and expressed other reasons that led him to make this tragic decision. In a second incident, the body of Bhupendra Kumal, 66, was found in a hotel in Villa Carlota, in El Poblado, an area frequented by tourists. Kumal had been in the country since February and had told hotel employees that he was suffering from several illnesses. The staff found his body face down on the bed during cleaning efforts and, receiving no response, alerted the authorities. He managed to enter the emergency room of the healthcare center and receive the first interventions from the doctors, but before undergoing surgery for the injuries suffered, he died at 12:11 in the morning this Friday. The deceased in these events was identified as James Letroy Perry, who was born in the state of Ohio, United States, 41 years ago, and who had been sightseeing in Medellín for a few days. The first versions given by the witnesses of this event are that this American had jumped, unexpectedly, from the balcony of the room where he was staying. However, the death remained to be established by the authorities and the body was transferred to Forensic Medicine, in Medellín, to determine if in fact this person made an attempt on his life, if it was thrown or if this death is accidental. If it is confirmed that it was a suicide, it would be the seventh case of this type that has been recorded in the city and if it was an accident, it would be the second. Commune 11 (Laureles-Estadio) is the second commune with the most cases of foreign deaths in the city, with seven cases, only surpassed by commune 14 (El Poblado), where 17 of the visitors to the city have died.
